The evolving story of how Greensboro, NC is reclaiming the history of its Black Patriots -- the African American men who fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, March 15, 1781.
A collaboration involving individual descendants of Battle participants, both Black and white, along with community cultural and political agencies at the local, state and federal levels.

Joanne Foley’s ancestor Maj. Joseph Winston (1746-1815) was a Revolutionary War militia leader and slaveholder whose statue stands in Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. She talks about monuments, battling white supremacy and her own changing perspectives on the past with the Greensboro History Museum.
Ishmael Titus was one of the Black Patriots who took part in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781 with honor and sacrifice. Centuries later, his descendants have researched and worked to uncover his story.
